Fails to load Taskbar. Cannot access desktop

The problem is like this:
Windows 2000 starts up.
Logs me on (I have this on automatic)
Then, It fails to load the task bar. (I think that's the
problem)

So I can't see or access the taskbar, nor can I interact
with the desktop at all.

The only way I have so far managed to use the computer, is
by running things from the Windows Task Manager.

Things I have tried:
Adaware Removal - Ran, did not find anything amiss.
Norton Antivirus - Scan started up, but didn't actually
start scanning.
Starting in safe mode - Same problem occurs. I still have
no access to desktop or taskbar.

Can you try booting with "The last known good ..." option as well as the
"Safe mode"?

I've tried that as well and it doesn't work. I also tried
'repairing' by inserting the win2k cd, but that doesn't do
anything either.

i'm having the same problem
only if i resatart the computer about 3 or 4 times
everything comes back.
but runs very slow, and error messages keep popping up
