Print anything from WORD, notepad, IE6, and you will see an extra page
generated before the desired content is actually printed. The extra page is
not blank, but has the text string "dColor" in the upper-left hand corner of
the page. The problem occurs under Windows XP Pro.
The affected printer is a Brother DCP1400 laser. Originally, we used the XP
supplied driver detected when we connected the printer via a USB connection.
However, we then noticed that we could not print multiple copies in any
application, and could not print certain reports in Softdent (by Practice
Works). Practice Works support directed us to update the driver to the one
that supports a "HP Laserjet 2300 Series PCL 5E" device. This driver
resolved the multiple copies issue but introduced the new "extra page"
issue. We do not get this problem printing to other devices on our network,
including a older model HP Laserjet. BTW, there are no hits on this issue on
Brother's or HP's web site. Also, we are up to date on all XP updates as of
this week.
Questions:
(1) what is the significance of the text string "dColor" on our extraneous
page? Is this connected somehow to PostScript functionality?
(2) Is this a known issue? Is there any way to workaround the problem?
TIA for any help with this one
