While we were out of the country for a year our Dell PC Windows XP had no
printer attached to it. When we returned we hooked up our old HP Laserjet
III and now when we try to print we always get the window 'This document
failed to print'. We followed all the troubleshooting guide suggestions with
no results. We got a new printer and put in the new driver with no results,
still the same message. It's like something, maybe a new program we
downloaded over the year or something, is blocking the printing. Please help
if you have any suggestions. JT

Parallel printer? USB printer? One of each?

HP 3 is a Parallel if I recall, and your port might be bad on the
printer. See if you have a tool on the menu or under printer
properties to check communications? Is there any indication that the
system sees the printer? What is the new printer type? Do you have a
friend or another computer to test the printer and cable? Can you swap
cables?
