extended CD play causes system crash

Please help,

If I play a CD, either a game or a music CD for a moderate time my
system will shut-down. It will not fully boot until I remove the CD.
The length of time before a shut-down appears to be getting shorter.

I have a gateway laptop running XP home. My cd/dvd driver is a
slimtype combo lsc-24082k. Crashes have occured playing Risk II,
Heroes of Might and Magic III, and using iTunes to digitize a CD.

Thanks for any help,
Ricky

"digitize a cd",cds dont get formatted, the data gets written to them by
the OS,no 3rd party is involved. Also, the frames per second required by
most games is faster than a cdrom can achieve, try installing the game
onto youre OS,otherwise youre burning out youre cdrom hardware..

Andrew is a troll; please ignore him.

It is apparent from your description of the problem that you are having
hardware difficulties. The culprit could be the optical drive, the power
supply, overheating, or the motherboard. Unfortunately, since you have a
laptop you can't really troubleshoot this yourself. You'll need to call
Gateway tech support for repair/replacement. Back up your data before you
send the machine anywhere.
