Exporting should not remove any data from your original data file, but you
should always back up your data file before you do anything like this.
If you are exporting to "back up" your data, that is a very poor choice.
Exporting changes your data to another format, and loses some information.
You back up your data by making a copy of your Outlook Data File.

Ray,
They should not be removed from your Contact folder. But as a precaution you
might consider backing up your *.PST file containing the contacts.

1. Create a folder on your PC, that you can easily relocate, such as in
"MyDocuments".
2. Name it so that you can easily identify its contents.
3. While still in "MyDocuments", on the toolbar> Select Tools> Folder
Options> View tab> Select to show all hidden files.
4. Then if you have a "Search" button in "MyDocuments", select it> Type:
*.PST in the search for this file, on your computer. Wait until the search
is done.
5. Select All the *.PST files displayed/found> Right-Click the selected
group of files> Select COPY> then paste the COPIED files into the folder you
created in step#1.
6. Then you should feel safe to export the Contact folder, to a *.CSV file.

If you plan to import the *.CSV file into another application. You might
consider, exporting a *.CSV file from that application.
a. And see the fields that are present in that application that can be
imported into it. The OUTLOOK contact folder will contain more information
that the application, might be able to accept, say in the OExpress (WAB)
Address book, when importing from a *.CSV file.
b. Also if you do plan to import the Contact folder information from a
*.csv file, into OExpress. It is easier if you first open the file into a
spreadsheet or database program, and add an extra "blank" field. Then resave
the new file as a *.CSV file. This will add an extra "," (comma) to each
line of your data, which would be time consuming if you had numerous
contacts, and had to do this manually to each line. Because the import will
sometimes exclude the last field of the original *.csv file.

Remember if you have created Distribution Lists (known as "Groups" in OE),
these will not export to a *.CSV file, you will need to manually recreate
them, if you plan to import your Contacts folder, from a *.CSV file.
