Explorer shows foreign favorites as garbled text..please help

I had Internet explorer 6 on a win 2k pc and I upgraded
to win xp pro. I copied my favorites to my new pc. Some
of my favorites are japanese websites. On my old pc they
showed up in my favorites list fine. On my new pc they
show up as symbols (squares). The American websites show
up normally (yahoo, google, etc). I have ran windows
updates but the problem still exists. any ideas?
