Explorer Search Hangs - Not Responding

I was having this issue in Windows XP. I would do a search in Explorer
(not Internet Explorer) and the window would hang. I had to use the task
manager to kill the process. I unloaded the zip and cab files like some
posts recommended and that didn't help either. What finally fixed it was
turning indexing off:
Start/Search/Change Preferences/With Indexing Service/NO

Made a world of a difference. I don't even remember how this service got
turned on. In any case, hope this helps others who are having this
problem.

Joe Smo you are a lifesaver. Turning indexing off worked like a charm.
I have been hastling with this problem for months now and did not have
time to search for a solution. I don't remember when it started
happening, but I think probably about the time I loaded Windows XP SP2.
I can't thank you enough.
