explorer runtime error

when i attempt to access certain websites, i receive the
following message and explorer quits:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Program: c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Abnormal Program Termination

I have atttempted to find patches or service packs that
may fix the problem, but have come up short. Anybody
have a solution for an individual that is programming
illiterate? Feel free to contact me at my email if you
can assist.
