Explorer Problem

The maiboard failed on XPhome box, and I replaced it with a later
version & faster chip. XP found all the new hardware OK, and told
me to re-activate XP. Done that - no problem. However the system
now runs v. v. slow. In task manager CPU use is high (80-100%) and
the offending app is explorer.exe which seems to be running
constantly.

I have disabled all startup tsr's with no improvement, and don't
know where to go next. Does anyone suspect a virus? or have any
other suggestion?

Any guidance gratefully accepted.

I don't mean to offend you, but are you sure you set the front side bus
speed properly on your motherboard? You didn't give specifics for the
m/b and proc, but some m/b's ship with the fsb set at 100 when you'll
really want it to be 133.

I think you've got it Malke, the cpu is Athlon XP 2800 on via
chipset board. The board has 133Mhz fsb, but the chip is 266 fsb!!!
The b*******ts have sold me the wrong board!!!

Thanks for the advice.
