Hello all,

Is there a way to change Explorer to open drives(W98 settings) instead of
Document(XP-settings) folders? When I use Explorer, I am looking for
programs/files, not docs. I want to have Explorer open/expand C or D(or both)
drives when I click on it.

Thanks,

TJ

By default, Windows Explorer always opens with My Documents. Customize it by
changing the properties for the Windows Explorer icon and replace the Target
field with: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\yourfolder

1. Right click on the icon you use to launch Explorer and select Properties.
2. In the Target box, type (or replace the existing text with) the
following:

%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe /e, path

Where in place of path above you should enter the actual path to the
directory you want open by default. For example C:\Windows, or C:\Documents
and Settings, etc. The path also doesn't require quotes around it. To have
My Computer listed as the default selection, type explorer.exe /e,

Customize the Windows Explorer Views in Windows XP

Have Windows Explorer Default to the %SystemRoot% Drive When Started:

WAHOOO!!!! Changing the properties to "explorer.exe /e" did it! Thats MUCH
better!

Thank you!

Is there a switch for opening multiple drives? Explorer opens C: now, which is
great, but is there a switch to get it to open multiple drives(C & D)? I used
/e by itself for C:\, then found to put a comma after /e to open D:\ by itself,
but cant seem to get it to do a C: and D: together..

Create two shortcuts on the desktop, one for each drive you want to open.

Easiest way is to open Explorer, right click the C: drive, choose Copy.
Right click your desktop and choose Paste Shortcut. Now clicking that
shortcut will open Explorer at the C: drive level. In the same way, you
can make shortcuts that open Explorer at any level. I have one that opens
in My Music folder. Another opens at the My Computer level with all drives
showing directly under it. Just highlight and right click the level you
want and choose Copy, go to your desktop, right click and choose Paste
Shortcut. Once you have the shortcut you can then rename it whatever you
wish to remind you what it's for.

A workaround would be to make shortcuts to each drive letter as explained in
my previous post. Then you can click on both shortcuts one at a time to
open 2 versions of Explorer. Then right click the Taskbar and choose "tile
windows horizontally" (or vertically). Now you have 2 windows open with
each drive in its own window. Works great for copying things from one drive
to another.
