explorer.exe uses 95-99% CPU at startup

When XP starts, explorer.exe uses 95-99% of CPU according to Task Manager.
Ending the process and restarting explorer.exe in Task Manager seems to fix
the problem until the next restart.

Anyone know why? And how to fix it? TIA

Your computer may be set for Windows Auto-updates and having some issues
with the MS update site in the background. Turn off auto-updates, reboot,
and test again.

I am having same problem. Mary, are you sure it is no a virus?

I'm having a similar issues. Only it occurs whenever I enter the "C" drive.
Then explorer.exe max's out CPU time at each step as I work down each
directory, stopping after about a minute each time, allowing me to click on
each succesive folder. The C drive/documents and settings/etc. is the only
place it does this. I have all the latest and greates Spyware and Internet
Security, and I'm firewalled with hardware and software (resent scans). My
other computers (same network) do not do this. I've been trying to solve this
for over a month.
