explorer.exe uses 95-99% CPU on Startup

When XP starts, explorer.exe uses 95-99% of CPU according to Task Manager.
Ending the process and restarting explorer.exe from Task Manager seems to
solve the problem until the next restart.

Anyone have any ideas why? And how to fix it? TIA

You've got something running at startup that is doing this. Explorer.exe
is the Windows graphical user interface. With so little information
from you, that's about all anyone can say. Here is a link which
explains what details you need to include in a newsgroup post to get
focused help:

And in the meantime:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

If the computer is clean, you can do clean-boot troubleshooting:
