Explorer.exe has error memory could not be read when clicking on my
computer icon

I have had this problem since installing visual studio .net, and this
in turn installed IE6 SP1. I have been trying to figure this error
out for quite sometime and I cannot remove IE6 because .NET relies on
it.

Here is what I have been able to determine:
From filemon.exe from sysinternals.com
Explorer.exe will crash after trying to read:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

At the same time after filemon.exe says QUERY INFORMATION for this
file, I get this error in explorer.exe and it closes (of course) after
pressing OK to terminate:

The instruction at "0x01e9b710" referenced memory at "0x01e9b710". The
memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

If I do not press OK, then I can still use explorer.exe like I
normally would. Also, this happens most of the time but not all of
the time. So there are times where it will work just fine. Also, it
only happens when trying to click in the folders view and trying to
double click on My Computer or by clicking on the + (plus) sign.

Any ideas why this is happening?

UPDATED Information:
In regmon.exe I noticed that there are BUFOVRFLOW when
getting these registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\D
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\D\_GVI
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints\F\_GVI

Any ideas why I would get BUFOVRFLOW for these values? The
one just shows like volume information. Oh and the really
weird thing, this only happens when I am NOT capturing
events with regmon.exe. When I am capturing events then
explorer.exe works just fine but I then see these
BUFOVRFLOW problems. Weird huh? Please let me know of any
ideas.

SOLUTION:
Well it turns out that my HP Photosmart printer has a removeable drive
for the memory card slot and basically my printer was not connected to
my computer so it would cause this error. I uninstalled the software
and driver for my photosmart p1000 printer and went to HP's website
and downloaded new drivers and now I no longer have this error. I
hope this information will help someone else.
