explorer.exe crashing incessantly

Recently my Windows Update popped up and told me it had downloaded and
installed new updates and I could either restart now or restart later. I
chose restart later and restarted within a few minutes. Upon Windows booting
up again my explorer.exe had not loaded and everytime I tried loading it
manually through Task Manager it would crash after a few seconds. The same
happens in safe mode. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Try the following link. Following the instructions. One thing I noticed
was turning off virus scan makes the process much quicker. Also, the step
when you back out sp2 takes a long time. You may think your pc is not doing
anything at times.
