explorer.exe

I downloaded a bios update for my Pavillion desktop, and now Windows will not
start up properly. When I open Task Manager, the only process running is
System Idle, and when I try to restart, I receive an error message that
explorer.exe is not responding. Any ideas?

Most of the time, a "Repair" or "upgrade" setup will recover from changed hardware,

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)
