Explorer.exe crashes on startup

Often, when I restart my system, explorer.exe will crash once it has
finished booting. It runs fine after explorer has a chance to terminate and
reload, but it does get annoying. What could be causing this?

You didn't give us enough information to get a specific answer. Your
problem could be caused by hardware or software. You might have a bad
driver. You might have viruses and/or spyware. You might have a
hardware component failing. There's just no way to pinpoint the path to
troubleshooting from your post. Start by performing a clean boot:

Do the normal scanning for viruses and spyware in Safe Mode.

the results of the clean boot and virus/spyware scans were, and what is
