Explorer.exe crashes! - Have detailed info, please help!!

Ok, so this has been happeneing for some time now. I would like to say ever
since I installed IE7. In fact, lots of errors have happened since IE7, but
that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other folks here, I keep
getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson references it to my Documents and
Settings folder in the temp file where you would find the file: appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media Center
Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and spyware/malware
- none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY) happens when I attempt to
log into eBay while having AOL Software up and running at the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally states
the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation regarding this
error message click here link. The "error signature" states the following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: Shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

The referencing text, "appcompat.txt" file contains this information:

-------------------------------

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my computer
telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash and here's why:

The "message" window pops-up with the info and asks if I want to report it
to Microsoft (which I have been doing for months). The ONLY way to continue
using my computer is by sending the info. So, I send the info. Then, it
happens all over again - immediately (the pop-up window, etc.), and I send it
again. Once sent, that's it - it's over. Computer is frozen dead. The ONLY
way to continue is to open the task manager, which is now ONLY accessible via
Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task on drwatson.exe (there are 2, it usually
doesn't matter which one I end task on, but sometimes it does). Most of the
time that's all I have to do. If that doesn;t work the fiorst time, then I
need to get back into the task manager and end task on dwwin.exe (something
like that).

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually continue
and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal operations until
the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS return in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

So, I know this was long, but I wanted to be very very detailed because I am
so tired of this happening and I want someone to please figure this out and
help me stop pulling my hair out!!

One last thing - should I try to use WinSockFix.exe, or is that wrong to do
with this situation?

OK, that's it! ANYONE, please help with a solution! Thank you.

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash
and here's why:

The "message" window pops-up with the info and asks if I want to
report it to Microsoft (which I have been doing for months). The ONLY
way to continue using my computer is by sending the info. So, I send
the info. Then, it happens all over again - immediately (the pop-up
window, etc.), and I send it again. Once sent, that's it - it's over.
Computer is frozen dead. The ONLY way to continue is to open the task
manager, which is now ONLY accessible via Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end
task on drwatson.exe (there are 2, it usually doesn't matter which
one I end task on, but sometimes it does). Most of the time that's
all I have to do. If that doesn;t work the fiorst time, then I need
to get back into the task manager and end task on dwwin.exe
(something like that).

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually
continue and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal
operations until the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return in a timely manner - ALWAYS.

So, I know this was long, but I wanted to be very very detailed
because I am so tired of this happening and I want someone to please
figure this out and help me stop pulling my hair out!!

One last thing - should I try to use WinSockFix.exe, or is that wrong
to do with this situation?

OK, that's it! ANYONE, please help with a solution! Thank you.

I did not mean that appcompat.txt WAS the error! I meant that even though
drwatson.exe is referring to that file, my computer is still technically
crashing! (freezes)

The CD I have is the one that came with this computer - it is not a seperate
XP Media Center Edition XP - it is from the manufacturer. Why?

Can you please describe your Windows XP system CD

Ok, so this has been happeneing for some time now. I would like to
say ever since I installed IE7. In fact, lots of errors have happened
since IE7, but that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other
folks here, I keep getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson
references it to my Documents and Settings folder in the temp file
where you would find the file: appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media
Center Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY)
happens when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up
and running at the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally
states the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation
regarding this error message click here link. The "error signature"
states the following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName:
Shell32.dll ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

-------------------------------

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer
telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash and here's
why:

The "message" window pops-up with the info and asks if I want to report it
to Microsoft (which I have been doing for months). The ONLY way to
continue
using my computer is by sending the info. So, I send the info. Then, it
happens all over again - immediately (the pop-up window, etc.), and I send
it again. Once sent, that's it - it's over. Computer is frozen dead. The
ONLY way to continue is to open the task manager, which is now ONLY
accessible via Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task on drwatson.exe (there are 2,
it usually doesn't matter which one I end task on, but sometimes it does).
Most of the time that's all I have to do. If that doesn;t work the fiorst
time, then I need to get back into the task manager and end task on
dwwin.exe (something like that).

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually continue
and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal operations
until the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

So, I know this was long, but I wanted to be very very detailed because I
am
so tired of this happening and I want someone to please figure this out
and
help me stop pulling my hair out!!

One last thing - should I try to use WinSockFix.exe, or is that wrong to
do
with this situation?

OK, that's it! ANYONE, please help with a solution! Thank you.

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I made
certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &
spyware/malware over the last 3 months.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Ok, so this has been happeneing for some time now. I would like to say
ever
since I installed IE7. In fact, lots of errors have happened since IE7,
but
that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other folks here, I keep
getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson references it to my Documents and
Settings folder in the temp file where you would find the file:
appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media Center
Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY) happens
when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up and running
at
the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally
states
the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation regarding this
error message click here link. The "error signature" states the following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: Shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

The referencing text, "appcompat.txt" file contains this information:

-------------------------------

Thank you.

Gerry

My questions on the subject of your system CD were directed towards your
ability to do a Repair Install. You have not actually answered my
original question? What did Sony provide? Does the CD include SP2?

I asked the question because I have tried to help with what seems to be
the same problem before and the solution found by one user was to
reformat the hard drive and clean install XP.

Hope this helps.

I did not mean that appcompat.txt WAS the error! I meant that even
though drwatson.exe is referring to that file, my computer is still
technically crashing! (freezes)

The CD I have is the one that came with this computer - it is not a
seperate XP Media Center Edition XP - it is from the manufacturer.
Why?

Can you please describe your Windows XP system CD

Ok, so this has been happeneing for some time now. I would like to
say ever since I installed IE7. In fact, lots of errors have
happened since IE7, but that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like
some other folks here, I keep getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr.
Watson references it to my Documents and Settings folder in the
temp file where you would find the file: appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media
Center Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY)
happens when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up
and running at the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and
naturally states the reporting details, blah blah, and for more
infomation regarding this error message click here link. The "error
signature" states the following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName:
Shell32.dll ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I
made
certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &
spyware/malware over the last 3 months.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer
telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash and here's
why:

The "message" window pops-up with the info and asks if I want to report
it
to Microsoft (which I have been doing for months). The ONLY way to
continue
using my computer is by sending the info. So, I send the info. Then, it
happens all over again - immediately (the pop-up window, etc.), and I
send
it again. Once sent, that's it - it's over. Computer is frozen dead. The
ONLY way to continue is to open the task manager, which is now ONLY
accessible via Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task on drwatson.exe (there are
2,
it usually doesn't matter which one I end task on, but sometimes it
does).
Most of the time that's all I have to do. If that doesn;t work the
fiorst
time, then I need to get back into the task manager and end task on
dwwin.exe (something like that).

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually continue
and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal operations
until the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

So, I know this was long, but I wanted to be very very detailed because
I
am
so tired of this happening and I want someone to please figure this out
and
help me stop pulling my hair out!!

One last thing - should I try to use WinSockFix.exe, or is that wrong to
do
with this situation?

OK, that's it! ANYONE, please help with a solution! Thank you.

Hi. Ok, I did. Now what? There aren't any replies (as of yet).

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I
made
certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &
spyware/malware over the last 3 months.

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7,

expert
analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Ok, so this has been happeneing for some time now. I would like to say
ever
since I installed IE7. In fact, lots of errors have happened since IE7,
but
that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other folks here, I
keep
getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson references it to my Documents
and
Settings folder in the temp file where you would find the file:
appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media
Center
Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY)
happens
when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up and running
at
the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally
states
the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation regarding this
error message click here link. The "error signature" states the
following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: Shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

Thank you.

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I
made
certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &
spyware/malware over the last 3 months.

-------------------------------

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer
telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash and here's

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

Thank you.

Hi again. I do not know why that previous post I CANCELLED ended up
posting,
but I meant to just post the URL you requested - as noted in the follow-up
reply.

Thanks for your assistance.

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I
made
certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &
spyware/malware over the last 3 months.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your
hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to
use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware
with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

expert
analysis, not here.**

In fact, lots of errors have happened since
IE7,
but
that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other folks here, I
keep
getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson references it to my Documents
and
Settings folder in the temp file where you would find the file:
appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media
Center
Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY)
happens
when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up and
running
at
the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally
states
the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation regarding
this
error message click here link. The "error signature" states the
following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName:
Shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer
telling me something has happened. NOT. It is indeed a crash and
here's
why:

The "message" window pops-up with the info and asks if I want to
report
it
to Microsoft (which I have been doing for months). The ONLY way to
continue
using my computer is by sending the info. So, I send the info. Then,
it
happens all over again - immediately (the pop-up window, etc.), and I
send
it again. Once sent, that's it - it's over. Computer is frozen dead.
The
ONLY way to continue is to open the task manager, which is now ONLY
accessible via Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and end task on drwatson.exe (there
are
2,
it usually doesn't matter which one I end task on, but sometimes it
does).
Most of the time that's all I have to do. If that doesn;t work the
fiorst
time, then I need to get back into the task manager and end task on
dwwin.exe (something like that).

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually
continue
and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal
operations
until the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

So, I know this was long, but I wanted to be very very detailed
because
I
am
so tired of this happening and I want someone to please figure this
out
and
help me stop pulling my hair out!!

One last thing - should I try to use WinSockFix.exe, or is that wrong
to
do
with this situation?

OK, that's it! ANYONE, please help with a solution! Thank you.

-------------------------------

Now, I know you may be thinking, this isn't a "crash" it's just my
computer
telling me something has happened.

Now, the computer flickers, some icons are REMOVED from the right
side
taskbar, and I am back in busines (except it bother's me that this
has
happened and I have lost icons on the right side, so I usually
continue
and/or save whatever I was doing and reboot to resume normal
operations
until the next time.

The "next time" usually occurs a day or so later - but will ALWAYS
return
in
a timely manner - ALWAYS.

Thank you.

Thanks again.

Hi again. I do not know why that previous post I CANCELLED ended up
posting,
but I meant to just post the URL you requested - as noted in the follow-up
reply.

Thanks for your assistance.

Yeah, I read this same exact reply you left for others, which is why I

certain I mentioned that I have already done a full check for viruses &

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to
use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware
with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

In fact, lots of errors have happened since
IE7,
but
that's another day. Ready? Here we go: Like some other folks here, I
keep
getting Explorer.exe crashes. Dr. Watson references it to my Documents
and
Settings folder in the temp file where you would find the file:
appcompat.txt

Now, key point: For my situation, (btw, I am using Windows XP Media
Center
Edition, SP2 on a Sony Vaio Desktop - scanned for viruses and
spyware/malware - none found) this error ONLY (and I do mean ONLY)
happens
when I attempt to log into eBay while having AOL Software up and
running
at
the same time.

So, the Windows Explorer Error Signature Window pops up and naturally
states
the reporting details, blah blah, and for more infomation regarding
this
error message click here link. The "error signature" states the
following:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName:
Shell32.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3241 Offset: 001d02eb
