Explorer.exe, Application Error

Sometime my computer starts by itself, then I get the
following error:
Explorer.exe, Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly
(0x0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

The computer hangs up and I have to force a hard boot.
After rebooting, I can use the computer without more
problems.
This is a new computer, I access the internet through
cable modem and have applied all the critical patches.
v. SP1
How can I fix the problem?

Are you sure about that error code? typically an error code will have 8
digits after the 0x
