Event 1000 Faulting Application Explorer.exe shell stopped unexpectedly

After applying SP2 to several of our IBM thinkpads, we're
starting to notice a problem. Every once and a while, the
Explorer.exe will experience an error. Looking at the
error detail before sending to microsoft I see this:
Faulting application explorer.exe version 6.0.2900.2180
Faulting module netapi32.dll version 5.1.2600.2180
Fault address 0x000390dc

Windows exlporer will restart, but Windows won't require a
reboot.

From the event log I see the same message, followed by:
Event ID 1001 Fault Bucket 127872659

And then
Event ID 1002
The shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was
restarted.

I'm pretty sure it started after SP2 was applied. Has
anyone found a solution for this one?
