explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe crashing

Robert

Whenever I start explorer.exe or iexplorer.exe, it
crashes and I get a fault in cnshook.dll. No new software
installed. This pretty much makes windows useless- I
can't get into Windows Explorer, Control Panel, Internet
Explorer, etc. MSN Explorer still works though.

Event Viewer shows the following:

"Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2600.0,
faulting module cnshook.dll, version 1.0.1.6, fault
address 0x000034ff."
and
"Faulting application iexplorer.exe, version 6.0.2600.0,
faulting module cnshook.dll, version 1.0.1.6, fault
address 0x000034ff."

Operating system / version: Microsoft Windows XP
Professional-5.1.2600
Computer manufacturer and model: X86-based PC,
Supermicro, P4DC6
Processor model and speed: x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping
4, 1784(MHz)

Looks like that DLL may be either spy-ware/ad-ware/don't-
need-it-ware that's hijacking your PC. This library is
not on my machine (XP Home) and searches in Google point
towards forums of people trying to clean their machines
of any bloat-ware.

Does the Desktop work OK? It is run by Explorer.exe. If the Desktop
works, the problem could be with Internet Explorer. Folder windows use
Explorer and Internet Explorer to run. Try reinstalling IE.

My advice would be to backup all your important files, format the
windows partition an re-install it, its the easiest way to solve these
types of problems.
