Explorer crashes when right click on any pic file

B

Bill McCartney

Running XP pro with service pk 1.
No matter where on my drive or drives a pic file is,when I right click
it explorer crashes. This happens with *all* pic formats. I am able to
double click and open the files though. When trying to delete a pic file
I have to highlight and use the explorer delete button. I can right
click all other file formats on any drive without this problem.
What the F%*# is happing here? Anybody got an idea?
TIA,

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

John,
I have ActiveShare and PhotoDeluxe Bussiness edition installed. (both Adobe)
Problem is though,I can't right click any pic files. .bmp/.jpg/.tif/
etc. without crashing Explorer.
Any other suggestions?

Sorry, Bill....that's all I could think of.
Maybe someone else will offer an idea.

I guess you ran a full system virus scan
using the most recent definitions?

Yes,I've ran several different virus progs and several different spyware
and trojan progs as well.
I think I will uninstall all the image programs on the system and see
what happens after I clean the registry of leftover entries.
If that doesn't help,I may have to post this in the "General" newsgroup.
Mayhaps someone else will have a suggestion though.
Thanks for the suggestion of PhotoShop though. It did give me the idea
to uninstall all the various image programs on my system.
Thanks,

In addition to John's advice:

See if a context-menu handler is causing the problem:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm

Follow Method 2 - "ShellExView" part.

Ramesh,
Thanks,Excellent program. Found the problem in a matter of minutes. It
was pretaining to the external "ORB" drives I have installed.
Here's the Info:

Shell Extension Sample
Copy Hook Handler
Shell DLL 1, 0, 0, 1
SHELLEXT
Dynamic Link Library
OnSpec Electronics Inc
C:\ORBDRIVE\SHELLEXT.DLL

I simply renamed the file and every thing seems to be working fine.
Thanks again,
