Explorer crashes more than ever with SP2

I installed SP2 last night, and was pleased at most of the changes done to
it. But there's one bug or problem that hadn't gone away and is now even
worse than ever: Explorer crashes.

This usually occurs if I access Control Panel or any Explorer related
action. Either it crashes without warning and reloads (and it takes almost
20 seconds for it to close), or I see the error report screen, which
indicates it crashing because of NTDLL.dll.

Uninstalling SP2 reduces the crashes, but they still occur.

In addition, occasionally when I use the control panel I get the error of
netsetup.cpl not able to be accessed. I'm guessing its the new Wireless
network setup wizard.

I would like to know if this problem was ignored or missed, or if this
problem is not common.

As an added notice, opening up Event Viewer and opening up the entry for
the application error gives this:

"Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00011f52."

I have sent at least 6 error reports to MS about this crash. Other times I
get the message from Winlogon:

"The shell terminated unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted."

Someone please give me advice on what to do, this is annoying.

What are the Event ID No's and Source?

I don't have a problem with Explorer - but I DO have the same problem
with netsetup.cpl being unaccessable - every time I try to reference
control panel - or any of the router configuration options.
Reinstalling SP2 didn't help.

Event ID: 1000, source: Application error

And for cases where Explorer crashes without warning: Event ID: 1002,
source: Winlogon

My problem is similar. Since installing SP2 RTM, Explorer.exe crashes if i
right click the start button: the pulldown file menu or any file within
explorer`s main window. When this happens, two instances of DR Watson start
running behind the scenes, & Explorer won`t unfreeze & reboot until both
programmes are shut down via the task manager.
Some other forums have suggested deleting context menu entries in the
registry for Dr DivX or DivX codecs in general. However, I have used regedit
& found NO entries in my context menu for anything to do With DivX.
With the release to world via windows update only days away, can anything be
done hotfix wise to regain full control of the context menu & also stop
Explorer.exe crashing? Otherwise I can see MS comming in for a lot of stick
for this highly annoying Bug!

And shall I add to this bug:

After Explorer crashed, DrWatson crashed as well (huh? lol). The error
report box shows up as "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger" where while sending
a report to Microsoft I am prompted on sending something "big" to them.

More info: in the logs I find this (note: all sources are "Application
error")

I hope MS fixes this before it rolls to Automatic Updates. Otherwise I
don't expect nice things to pop up in their collection of error reports.

And that is exactly what happens to me.

Same here. Rightklicking on "START" or anything in the explorer makes it
crash. Same goes trying to use the "Delete"-button on the keyboard.

MS in deep shit here I believe...

Exactly what's happening to me as well -- annoys the heck out of me.

Today I got:

App error
1000
Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00010f29.

plus (just after it):

App error
cat (100)
1000
Faulting application drwtsn32.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001295d.

Usually I just get:

App error
cat (100)
1000
Faulting application drwtsn32.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001295d.

explorer hangs after these errors and I have to ctl-alt-del, shot down
iexplorer -- explorer then restarts.

Any help would be appreciated..

I was messing around with my system that had the same problem
described in this thread. Experimenting, I found that if I ran the
old and unsupported Regclean made by Microsoft, it fixed the problem.
Other registry cleaners didn't work, but after running Regclean the
problem seems to have gone away. I was very surprised that the problem
was the registry.

Do you have Divx installed? Judging by the fact that you expected registry
entries of it, I will assume you do. Try uninstalling Divx, disabling DEP
then reinstalling Divx. DEP conflicts with the "installation wrapper" on
Divx, and prevents .dll's from being registered. It also causes problems even
if it was installed before SP2 is installed.

Try running this from the command line or from Start - run
iexplore.exe /rereg

This program re-registers IExplorer in the registry.
Hope it works and regards.

I am having similar problems and have tried all of the above
resolutions with no luck. Any action within explorer window results in
this error. I can't find any other group discussion with any
resolutions. Running Windows XP Pro SP2. Any ideas. Have attached the
error I am getting below:

It is the DEP module that is causing all the explorer crashes and everything
else going wrong with the system. It cannot recognize good script and closes
everything down...and you cannot turn it off for the system. Good luck!!
