Execution of GPO scripts has timed out and have been terminated EVENT ID 1217

We have a couple of XP SP1 boxes (band new builds) that sporadically hang at
the Applying your personal settings point during login, I've left the
workstations logging in and they will eventually get there after nearly an
hour. The problem is only sporadic, maybe 1 login out of 5, restarting the
workstation does not always fix the problem. It also gives an Execution of
GPO scripts has timed out and have been terminated Event ID 1217 in the
event log.

We have 4 DC's 2 w2k3 SP3 and 2 w2k3 which have just been installed. As far
as I can see DNS is configured fine, and the problem doesn't affect any of
our 230 w2k Pro workstations, but as the problem only happens sporadically,
I'm not quite 100% sure of this. There are 2 group policies applied to the
XP boxes but theses are exactly the same as are being applied to w2k boxes
in the same OU.

Kerry,

I am having the same problems. Would it be possible to email the hotfi
or send a link to it. My XP Pro is an OEM from Dell, and MSFT wont hel
with the fix while Dell suggests that I wait till SP2 comes out!
