login Scripts not running

G

George Schneider

I have an OU that caintain another OU beneath it. The aprent OU is called
WSUS and the lowere OU is called W2K. W2K contains all W2K workstations and
WSUS contains the WinXP workstations. I have an GPO on each. WSUS contains
the settings for Windows update as well as a login script to enable automatic
updates and start the service becuase the services are stoped and disabled.

W2K runs a login script to correct DSRT issues.

Both login scripts are computer policies.

The strange thing is everythingr uns fine on the XP cleints.

For the W2K clients who are not at the main site where the script is located
in the netlogon directory on the main DC it appears the script is not running.

Shouldn't the GPO flow down to the W2K direcotry. Is there any reason why
the script to start automatic updates wouldn't apply to cleints at a
different site.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello George,

Did you check with repadmin the replication between the dc's? Also run dcdiag
..v and netdiag /v on the DC's to check for errors. Did you configure AD Sites
and services, to specify the different subnet from the other site?

Best regards

Yes the subnets are setup in sites and services. I would think replication
is working correctly since the policy has progated to the other domain
controlllers as well as the batch file showing up in the netlogon folder on
the other domain controllers.

Hello George,

On a 2000 client run gpresult /v and check if the script is also in the list
of policies.

I though gpresult was only availble on XP and server 2003 and wasn't
avialable on w2k.

I think I found part of the problem. The Sccommand isn't in windows 2000 by
defualt and worked for me since i had the supprt tools and that was why the
script ran for me. Is there a way to write a script that will enable a
service or change the stratup type other than this? This way I can use my
batch script to start the sevice. We had disabled most of the windows
automatic update service in our company and now need to enable it to work
with WSUS.

Hello George,

You can enable the Automatic update service with GPO settings under computer
configuration, windows settings.

Hello George,

Thank you for using newsgroup again.

For your concern about enabling the Automatic Update service, there is no
need to accomplish it though batch script. You may enable the Automatic
Update Service with GPO setting.

Suggestion:
============

1. Open Group Policy Editor.

2. Expand "Computer Configuration"->"Windows Settings"->"Security
Settings"->System Services->Automatic Updates"

3. Select the checkbox of "Define this policy settings"->"Automatic"

Hope the suggestion will help you on the issue. If anything is unclear,
please feel free to let me know.

Thanks a lot.
