Excel problems

I am trying to open my existing Excel package but keep getting a message
"please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 2000", I cannot seem
to get past this and it is blocking current spreadsheets. I have never
installed Office 2000!

Any help would be appreciated

Don't have a solution, but the same thing happens with Microsoft Office 2000.
Each time I start outlook it goes through the configuration cycle as through
it has never been started.
