Excel problems with mouse

Mike

I am using Office XP and have experienced continuing
problems using the mouse in Excel. Specifically the
mouse sticks when I am utilizing the drag function. I
cannot get it to release and the only way out is to exit
the program using the task manager. If I return to the
Excel file I was using the mouse immediately sticks again
and I have to repeat the exit via the task manager. It
also sticks in any new file. I have changed the mouse
and still experience the problem. I have to reboot the
computer to get the mouse to work again.
Has anyone experienced this problem? What is the
solution?

I am having the exact same problem in excel 2002 on xp
professional. I click on a cell with the mouse and it
will not allow me to de-select. Tabbing around or using
the arrow keys works fine. It only happens when I click
in a cell. [my solution to escape the selection is the
same as yours, using task manager] someone please help!

I've pasted below a couple of previous answers to this
issue. Note that I use a touchpad on a Dell D600
Latitude. The F2-Exit sequence did not work. I have not
re-installed drivers.

You get this error when Excel is in 'Edit' Mode. (Try
pressing F2 and exit).

It is most probably a problem with the mouse drivers.
The user should try
updating or re-applying these and see if it fixes the
issue

I suspect you have an MS wheel mouse. This had a problem
with the drivers
and Excel which exhibited this behaviour. Either
download new drivers or
re-apply the ones you have if they are the latest
