Excel problem

I have just starting having a problem - whenever I click on the File word to
access the pull down menu, it locks up for about a minute or so. I can hit
CTRL + P to print with no problem but can't click for that pull down menu. I
tried to Detect & Repair, but it gives me error 1402: Setup cannot open the
registry key.

I am running Win XP with Office 2003.

How can I fix this (these) problems?
