Excel hangs when editing MS Query

Hello, I am having a problem with MS Query hanging when
trying to edit or create a new query.

Excel stops responding, and then eventually hangs the
entire computer. While this happens, I get the status
message "Excel is waitng for datat to be returned from MS
query"

This is happening with excel 2000 (fully updated) on a
fully updated win XP machine.

I believe this isssue had something to do with the
windows update, as the problem started hapening after
updating the machine. This machien originally had Office
XP and had the same issue. I uninstalled Office XP and
installed 2000, and the issue still exists.

Is there anyone who has experienced this or anyone who
can point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.

If there are huge quantities of data being pulled from a 'slow' source excel
(MsQuery) may appear to hang. I have queries which can take up to 20
minutes to appear. I use XP and 2003 with both win XP and 2000 and allowing
for this 'thinking time' have little trouble.

Sometimes very complicated queries in say Access which are used as the
source can 'jam' things'.

Perhaps an insight into the source and whether this is remote or local,
together with how much data and it's criteria may help

Thanksf ro the reply.

As it is, I can refresh the data in the query with no
problem. I have checked all the servers the query is
hitting, and there's no problem.
The problem occurs when trying to create a new query or
edit the actual query being used. Excel just hangs.

Thanks
Adam
