excel freezing up and/or mouse clicking won't disengage

My excel keeps freezing up on me and/or I'll left click on a cell and I
can't disengage the left click - it just keeps dragging through the whole
worksheet. When I sent the error report, I was directed to the Office
Updates site, but that site says my Office apps are all updated. I've had
to CTRL ALT DELETE out of it each time I've opened it (I have critical info
to access) and am worried about all these hard shut-downs affecting my system.

Am running Windows XP with Excel version 2002 SP3.

Hi JSJ Jude

Sounds like a mouse problem to me. Try and hit the wheel on your mouse. If
you have one of those multi-buttoned mouses, try hitting all those buttons.
Sometimes it also helps to hit Ctrl and then click the mouse. If that is the
problem, and you happen to have a wireless mouse, replace the batteries.

Hi everyone,
I am having this exact same issue...for me, it is not a mouse problem as I
have tried it with different mice, but what happens for me, is I have to
close out all my excel documents (many times without saving).
It does not always start out doing this, I can get much done in excel and
sometimes, without having this issue. But lately, the problem with selecting
a cell and it not disengaging is happening more and more frequently...does
anyone know of something to fix this? It is driving me crazy
