Excel crashes after Solver use

After using Solver, I can add some text to cells, but upon entering the
first letter after the equal sign for a formula, Excel crashes.

I generally skip Excel's attemp to repair the file or whatever it does,
as I have learned to save immediately after using Solver. When I bring
Excel up again, it does not "remember" the file on the "file" tab.

I have duplicated this with absolutely no other programs, antivirus -
nothing else running, not even hooked up to the internet, so it appears
to be a Windows/Excel/Solver based problem.

BTW, it used to work fine. I can think of nothing I have changed.

I also ran the detect and repair off the help menu and it still crashes,
and can find nothing in the knowledge base (not saying it isn't there,
though).

Any ideas?

Post the error message

No real error message (this is in XP) except "Microsoft Excel has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."

There is a huge, detailed error report with memory addresses, etc. that
can be sent to Microsoft, but unless I'm missing something, as it
presents itself to me, it is not cut-and-paste-able. If there are any
specifics I could get you, or anyone, let me know. It's absolutely no
problem to duplicate this error.

Same problem

This is happening to me too on my work PC. No issues doing same at home.
Any luck sorting out the problem?
