solver help

Hi,

I recently started using excel solver. Apparently solver works
perfectly and just stops solving all of a sudden as I make the problem
a little bit more complex. The problem it selve is very basic
allocation amounts in asset classes based on returns. It intially does
this but if add sub totals it stops.

Hope i can get some help.

Not without details. Sorry, but my mind-reading skills have waned
with old age ;-).

Seriously, if the Solver model (including all dependent data) cannot
be explained simply, it would be prudent for you to upload an example
Excel file (preferably compatible with XL2003) to a file-sharing
website. See a list of free file-sharing websites below. Be sure to
make the uploaded file shared or sharable. And post a link (URL;
http://...) in a response here.

Some general comments about Solver might help you.

First, look at the Solver options. Increasing Iterations and Max Time
might help. Changing some other options might help as well.

Second, there are many data models where Solver is lucky to find a
solution with some data, but not with others. Sometimes the fault
lies in the model -- the Excel formulas. Sometimes the fault is due
to limitations of the free Solver that is included in Excel. In the
latter case, sometimes the more-robust commercial Solver can do a
better job.
