Excel 2007 Pivot Table references no longer work

I have several Excel 2003 version spreadsheets with pivot tables that use the
GETPIVOTDATA function to extract data from a pivot table in one worksheet
into another worksheet. In 2003 the file reference had the file extension of
".xls". When I convert and save all of these to the 2007 format ".xlsx", none
of these cross-worksheet references work anymore, because the file extension
has changed.

Is there no other way to fix this than to do a mass find and replace on
".xls" to ".xlsx"??. Even if I do this what happens when I save these all
back as 2003 version. Do I have to change all these back to ".xls" again? Am
I missing something obvious here?

I have now read more about the compatibility consideration
(http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...0205-4bb4-88b4-2e23c711dee81033.mspx?mfr=true)
with the upgrade of versions and have decided that i cannot afford the time
and hassle of using Excel 2007 with spreadsheets that have links to others
since these are not automatically converted. Have returned to using Excel
2003.
