Excel 2007 (Office 12) hangs opening a 2003 spreadsheet. Event ID

CJPMCP

Network Shared Excel 2003 Spreadsheet. Opens without issue on an Office 2003
version of Excel. However, when trying to open the same file using Office
2007; the application will sit forever and show an hourglass icon. The system
will report Excel as "Not responding"; but, if left for some 20 - 30 min/ The
file 'opens', though it's extremely slow to do so.
The file size is Approximately 25MB.

I have found many ref. to Lifeboat hang and Outlook errors with Event ID of
5000,
though none of these cover the issue in question. Most recommendations cover
uninstalling and re-installing Office. Shutting off or removing Anti-virus
software. Removing Acrobat. Running the Application [Excel] in safe mode.
And, removal of any desktop search engine such as Windows Desktop or Google
desktop.

System Logged the following "Event", with an ID of 5000
'Description' contained the following details:
EventType offdiag12, P1
772315d3-ad24-4efb-8096-4c24a982e91762984a34-c0e4-4446-ad27-81e056c137b7, P2
NIL, P3 NIL, P4 NIL, P5 NIL, P6 NIL, P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL.

As stated before, the file will eventually open (sometimes), if left alone.
This is not acceptable in terms of productivity though; >20-30min. to open
one file.

Thoughts...Suggestions....?
