Excel 2007 - Losing all Formatting on Files.

On a couple of occasions I have had files the were created in Excel 2003. I
have used them in Compatability Mode in Excel 2007. Everything works fine
for a while then when I try to save it one time it all of a sudden takes
forever to save the file.

If I wait 10-15 minutes (file is about 15 MB in size) the file will finally
save but when I reopen the file all formatting is gone from every page. No
message is given to show that there is any problem has occured.

Other times I have had a file that I try to open and even though I have used
it before I get the message that Excel found unreadable content. After 2-3
loops through the error messages saying it is unable to read the file, it
finally opens the file but all formatting is gone. I get a temp file that
has the following message.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <recoveryLog
xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/spreadsheetml/2006/main">
<logFileName>error042240_02.xml</logFileName>
<summary>Errors were detected in file 'C:\Documents and
Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK5\Accounting
positions feb 08_Matching_ABR.xls'</summary>
- <additionalInfo>
<info>Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may
have been lost.</info>
</additionalInfo>
</recoveryLog>

Others at the company have had similar problems on occasion.

(I have a Dell XPS with Dual Processors and 4GB of Ram runnig on Windows XP.)

Any thoughts or suggestions.

Hi,

I think you need to recover your file. There is a tool called Advanced
Excel Repair. I have used it to repair many corrupt Excel xls files on
my damaged disks successfully. Its homepage is http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

Maybe you can have a try.
