Excel 2007 does start up right

I have been using Excel 2007 since about March with no problems. Recently I
started experiencing a problem when the application is stated. It randomly
(maybe 2 out of 6 times) does not open to the "grid" screen but rather a
light blue screen with nothing on it except the Ready button in the upper
left corner. If I click on that button I get the same drop down menus as I
get when the application starts correctly and I click on the Ready button in
the lower left corner. This has only been happening for about the last two
weeks. If I just open it and close it several times without doing anything
else it seems to randomly start differently. Any idea what is wrong?

Opening to a light blue screen is normal. It means that there is no workbook
open. But I see no Ready button in the upper left. Just the Office button.
There is no ready button in the lower left corner. Just the status message:
Ready.

But clicking on the shortcut should not product the "grid" screen on etime
and the empty blue screen another. There is not workbook tabs when I get the
empty blue screen so it is not the screen you are referring to (although it
is the same color

There is no way to open a new workbook. As I said initially, there is nothing

Many, many people experiencing this problem. Proposed solutions run
the gamut from upgrading Adobe Viewer to messing with the registry.
None of these work. This is an Excel bug, perhaps related to .xls
versus .xlsx confusion? Microsoft, help.

I've been encountering this a lot.. I've tried a lot of things to
make it work, but it seems to have been getting worse in the last
month.. It would be nice to have it reliable..

My other problem is with the "help" file.. I don't see help, I get
the help window opening up with:

<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<?xml-stylesheet type='text/xsl' href='File://C:\Users\Cam & Colleen
\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
\MsOfficeHelp12\MOH6AF.tmp\toc.xsl'?>
- <assistance namespace="EXCEL" UseOnlineContent="1">
<title>Excel</title>
- <collections>
- <collection>

And it goes on from there... very annoying..
