Excel 2007 crashes with graphics errors

I can use Excel 2007 for about a half hour before the graphics, both in Excel
and in other applications, get strange errors - portions of the text in
message boxes missing, sections of the screen blank, etc. I'll also get a
message saying "Not enough system resources to display completely." This
never happened with Excel 2003 nor does it happen with any other program.
Closing and reopening Excel *sometimes* fixes things but not always. The
problems can start even when Excel is open but I'm working on another
application. The only sure (but temporary) cure is to reboot, but sometimes
even that can't be done without actually cutting power to the machine.
Strangely, often the first indication of a problem is a popup from my Belkin
UPS software saying it's lost connection to the USB port! It's not an
incompatibility between the two programs because it still happens even with
the Belkin software shut down. I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Athlon 64
X2 dual core processor and a Radeon 7000 series display adaptor. I'd
appreciate any suggestions as this problem makes working with Excel very
difficult. Thanks.

Hi,

I think you should use some anti-virus software such as Norton to
check your computer. If it doesn't work, you can try to reinstall
Excel. And if it still does not work, maybe you should check your
excel files. There is a tool called Advanced Excel Repair. I have used
it to repair many corrupt Excel xls files successfully. Its homepage
is http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

Hope this helps.

This seems to be a common problem that Microsoft appear to be aware of but
seem loathe to address. When this happens to me I just save what I was doing,
come out of Excel and then go back into it. All then seems well until it
happens again. Personally I think it is due to some internal Excel software
graphics constraints. Whwn it happens to me I have at least 400mb of RAM so
memory is not the issue. All I can suggest is that you complain to Microsoft
and if there is enough of us complaining then perhaps they may do something.

For whatever it is worth, I have had the same problem. I am running a graphic
intensive workbook and find the graphic problem occuring several times each
day. I have tried reducing resolution, color depiction, and every other trick
I can find to reduce the usage of graphic resources to no avail. Worse, Excel
also sometimes failes completely and I am left sorting out the recovered
files.

I upgraded from Office 2003 to 2007 thinking that might solve the problem
only to discover that on my laptop the problem continued unabated but on my
high end graphics desktop machine Excel 2007 simply crashes each time I open
it!

I have been running Office since it origninated and have never been this
frustrated before.

you can count me among the people with this problem. I just upgraded from
2003 to 2007 a few weeks ago, and spreadsheets with charts wig out and
finally lock up just as described. I am on XP Pro fully updated machine w/
2GB memory, and the spreadsheet today is 189KB. It does have a lot of
charts, but plllllease.

I noticed that cutting & pasting one chart into another spreadsheet
triggered the problem quite consistently (which I do to preserve formatting
and then change the data source to point to the current spreadsheet). Maybe
it is a compatibility problem?
argh!

I have the same problem... it is beyond annoying.

I have super virus protection so it is not that.

Clearly the "new" 2007 transition to .XLSX hs created a major problem. I
tried to download some Audible.com books and was unable to do so until I
closed Excel. Audible thought that the temporary Internet folder was full.
Excel appears to be eating the temp iternet memory... or perhaps all the
memory on the video card.

Whatever it is, Microsoft needs to deal with it immediately. I can't work
for more than a few minutes without the system locking up, the screen going
crazy etc. To compensate .. I have been closing excel every 10 minutes,
then restarting it. At least it keeps the computer from crashing.

This problem was happening on a PC regularly exactly as stated here, but a
different error appeared eventually indicating an add-in. When add-ins were
removed, the problem went away.

I spent a good deal of time on line with Microsoft yesterday, and it appears
they have solved the problem:

Search for folders called XLSTART; I had several, because of having had
several versions of Office over the years. Remove all instances of
PDFMaker.xla in those folders. The MS technician placed them on my desktop.
That's it.

That is apparently the problem, because I have had no issues since then.

amazing. I had PDFMaker.xla too (and in both XLSTART folders at that!)

so far so good!

blessings on you and your children and your children's children!
