Excel 2007 crash on save

I have several users, albeit not all, who are experiencing problems with
Excel 2007 crashing during a manual save. Windows XP on all machines. So
far it is only desktops, so the Bluetooth Com+ add-in is not an issue.

These are spreadsheets that were created in Office 2003, so they are opening
in Compatibility Mode. When you click save, you get the Compatibility
Checker window, then when you click Continue and you get a window stating
that Excel encountered a problem and needs to close. Event Viewer reports
the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Office 12
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 8/21/2007
Time: 2:34:40 PM
User: N/A
Computer: D7W767D1
Description:
Faulting application excel.exe, version 12.0.6024.5000, stamp 465f21c3,
faulting module excel.exe, version 12.0.6024.5000, stamp 465f21c3, debug? 0,
fault address 0x001fa58a.

I think the fault is specific to a certain spreadsheet that we use
individually for 60+ clients.

An initial thought was that it had something to do with the default file
save type, either XLSM or XLS, but it occurs with both file types. The
problem also does not occur every time the spreadsheet is opened and saved.
It does occur a majority of the time, but not every time.

A secondary thought is that it has something to do with the VBA macros that
are part of the spreadsheet. I have tried it with both macros enabled and
disabled, and the fault occurs whether or not macros are enabled. Saving the
file without macros (XLSX) is not an option.

If I cause the fault to occur enough times in succession the Microsoft
Office Diagnostics run, but the do not find any problems. I am sending the
error reports to Microsoft every time.

I've googled this and searched these communities to no avail. Has any
experienced anything similar?

Thanks.

Hi Bruno,

this doesn't work for Excel 2007, right? I am not able to use this within
the VBA-Environment... Can you help?

Frank.

Frank,

I have not been able to get it to run in Excel 2007. I run it in Excel 2003
and then open the files in 2007. The website says,

"Note to Excel 2007 Users: In Excel 2007 the code cleaner can only be run
from the VBE Tools menu. There will be no option to run the code cleaner from
the new Excel 2007 Ribbon user interface."

However, I'm having the continuing issues. I think it has something to do
with differences in the way formulas are handled between Excel 2003 and Excel
2007. We have a contractor who is far more skilled in Excel than I am
looking into it. At this time, I think that in order to avoid further
problems, we will need to edit all of the formulas to be acceptable to Excel
2007, then convert all of the files to .XLSM rather than trying to work in
compatability mode.

Hi Bruno,

thank you for your response. Meanwhile I am little bit upset about the
situation, because Excel does not work anymore as expected. I try to escalate
this to Microsoft. As soon as I have a workaround I let you know.

Good luck with that. I searched long and hard for similar issues online but
didn't find any. I've can't even begin to tell you how many times I've
clicked on "send error report to Microsoft", so it is being reported.

I was afflict with that in past few weeks.
I found that if I do not make any change with the cells using formula WEEKUNM, the excel can be saved successfully.
