You might have a corrupt menu file, close Excel, do a search for *.xlb
(depending on the excel version the name differs, 2002 is named Excel10.xlb,
make sure hidden files and folders are shown
rename it to Excel.bak). Then restart excel, if the problem is still there
delete tmp files, every time you create a workbook Excel keeps track of it
by making tmp files which should be deleted by Excel but sometimes that
doesn't happen
