Excel 2000 crashes on a daily basis

Hello.

I use Excel 2000 and it crashes numerous times a day, even if I reboot after
each crash. It starts by doing weird things. The first thing I usually
notice is that instead of selecting a cell when I click on it, it will either
highlight it or highlight numerous cells on the spreadsheet. At this point,
if I type anything, characters are in CAPS even though the CAPS key is not
on. I have to hit the CAPS key to write in lower case but that only works
for letters. The Save button opens the Open File dialog box. The Open file
button Saves my file. When I close Excel with the intention of shutting down
completely and restarting (since I can't use the application properly at this
point), I can't select Reboot from the Start->Shut Down options because
nothing happens. I have to select Shut Down and then manually start my
computer again.

The error message I get is always the same and is as follows:
Microsoft Excel : EXCEL.EXE – Application Error

The instruction at “0x30abd430†referenced memory at “0xffffffffâ€. The
memory could not be “readâ€.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Can anyone help me with this frustrating problem? I even tried the Cancel
button to open the debugging program but that then gives me another error
message.

Thanks

Sophie

One buggy part of many peoples XL2K is the toolbar customisation file. If
you do a search for a file called *.xlb and then rename or delete it, you
may find this helps. NOTE - You WILL lose all your customisations of your
toolbar if you do this, though you may not care anyway and can just recreate
any adjustments you have made.
