Every time Ip open a new IE window, the previous one closes.

I am trying to open multiple windows in IE but every time I double click on
the IE icon on the desktop, Right click on a url, and press open in new
window, the previous page cloces. It appears that I can only have one window
open at a time.

I suspect Spyware or even a virus, however my Virus Scan (McAfee) was not
updating and I have een trying to get them to sent me details of how to
update it manually, however every time they open the window to doisplay the
page to manually update Version 8 of Virus scan, all the windows close except
the one asking if they fixed my problem. (due to the chat window closing when
they point me to the url).

So can anyone shed any light on what I can do so that I can open multiple IE
windows at a time.

Many thanks in advance,

Neil

You may have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, a firewall, Earthlink (or
another) pop-up blocker, etc. You'll have to uninstall the program or turn
off the feature that's blocking new windows.

If the above does not resolve the problem, then continue with the following
as you may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. Thus, in addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Although you may have already run one or more of the programs,
please do so again according to the instructions below. Some variants of
malware can replicate themselves over and over if not removed properly.
Please follow all instructions carefully to be sure your system is
thoroughly cleaned:

Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning

Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

Jan Il,

Thanks, but I have looked at that link from postings of yours before.
I can open a second window, but as soon as that second window opens, then
the first window closes. The reason I know it opens a second window is that
the window appears in a di=fferent part of the screen. The the window that
was already open, closes.

It is something that will not allow more than one window to be open at a time.

You did not mention if you have checked your system yet using the
information provided at the bottom portion of my reply. If the other
information did not resolve the problem, then it is very probable that, as
you suspect, you have some type of 3rd party program that is causing the
problem and you need to remove it from your system to resolve it. Even if
you have run you AV, AdAware or SpyBot, there are other types of hijackers
and malware that these programs are not programmed for nor have the
definitions to detect and or remove. There are some that can not be
detected, or removed, while in Windows, and must be done in Safe Mode. Some
variants can replicate themselves, or even mutate, repeatedly if not removed
properly. Thus, I have provided a basic, accepted combination of programs
and steps for you that will deal with most all of these aspects to help make
sure your system is clean, and if a more vicious variant is the culprit, it
will help eliminate some means for it to hide.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
