Multiple opening of IE windows

B

Bob Wood

When I click on a link that opens 'in another window', I often find that
multiple windows open - and when I saw multiple, I really mean
multiple!! They just keep opening until I manage to stop them with Task
Manager - at which time all IE windows close, including he ones that I
didn't want to close!

One site that this *always* happens on is the P&O Ferries booking pages:
http://www.posl.com will get you there. After selecting my route, I
then click on the calendar and choose my date for the outward leg. As
the date appears in the appropriate place, windows start to open all
over my screen.

I'm using IE6 with SP2, fully updated as far as I know. Any
suggestions?

Hi,
Tossing out some guesses...

* Try disabling add-ons from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. See if one of them
is causing this.

* Clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

* Try these two commands from Start> Run> cmd [enter]
regsvr32 vbscript.dll [enter]
regsvr32 jscript.dll [enter]

* Reinstall the scripting engine. Go to
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
for the appropriate download of Windows Script 5.6

* Re-registering the DLLs listed in this article may help:

Hi Don

Thanks for your reply. Clearly not a quick thing to fix, so I'll have a
look at this over the weekend when I have a little more time and let you
know how I get on.

Hi Frank

As both you and Don have suggested 'malware', I'll start off by looking
at this. It's going to have to wait until the weekend though when I
have a little more time. I'll let you know the result.

Many thanks for responding.
