Event Viewer blank

Is there a fix for this?
I open EV app log and it's blank, but at the top it says that there are 2200
events.

Check your Filter and see if any of the Event Types boxes
are unchecked.
 
Nothing is unchecked.
From what I've heard, and from our experience, this is a "known problem". I
just haven't been able to find a fix for it on Microsoft's site.
 
I'm having the same problem with the application log,
system log is fine. It started after installing MS04-004
and MS04-007. Not a filtering issue.
