No events in Event Viewer

Windows 2000 SBS - Service Pack 4
Event Viewer
Application Log

It shows that there are over 22,000 events in the application log, but
none are visible. If you click where the event should be listed, a
blank record is highlighed (you can scroll through all 22,000 blank
records) but you can not open it.

All of the other event logs display just fine and you can open any
event to get more information UNTIL you try to open an 'invisible'
event in the application log. After that you can not access any other
events until you close and reopen the event viewer.

Thanks in advance,
John Wiles

John-

I've seen this a few times before.

First, if you highlight the application log and hit f5 to refresh, do the
events become visible?

Your best bet is probably to treat this as a corrupted event log. In such a
case, you want to set the Event Log service to disabled. Reboot. After
reboot, go to C:\%systemroot%\system32\config and rename the appevent.evt to
appevent.old (or something similar). Then, set the Event Log service back
to Automatic. Reboot again. You are now working with a fresh application
event log file. See if this fixes your issue.
