Event ID 7031 - Spooler service quits

Fran Varona

Hello from Spain.

Yesterday, one of my Win2K SP4 TS Servers had a problem with printing
system. The users told me that they could not print, and I checked the
server. I found the event id 7031 in event viewer, telling that spooler
service had stopped. I opened the print folder, and saw that there were no
printers.
I restarted spooler service, told the users to logon again and everything
was ok.

I looked for posts in this group about this problem, and I found some, but
very old, and I couldn't read them.

Is there any known problem in this theme? How can I prevent this for happen
again?

Thanks in advance,

Fran Varona

A crashing printer spooler is very common on a terminal server. It
is nearly always a sign that you are using a 3th party printer
driver which is not TS-compatible.
The remedy is to uninstall all 3th party printer drivers and map
all printers that don't autocreate to a native printer driver.
