When shutting down Windows XP, it tries to end
programs "ccApp" and "hpodd01.exe". After I click "End
Program", it stays at "Saving your settings" and freezes.

This was probably caused by corruption of Internet
Explorer when I was setting up my web page. However, I
uninstalled Internet Explorer and tried to re-install it.
The setup program also freezes and installation had to be
canceled.

What should I do?

Thanks,
Sara

"ccApp" is a Norton Antivirus file. "hpodd01.exe" has something to do
with an HP peripheral, perhaps a printer or scanner. Those programs are
crashing. You can't uninstall IE, so I wonder what you really did, and
I have no idea how IE could be corrupted by setting up a web page. No
matter. It is not possible to give you a specific diagnosis without
more details about your system, what you're running, etc. However, you
should start with these generic troubleshooting steps:

1) scan with current antivirus using updated definitions - note that
"current" means a version not older than 2002; 2) remove spyware with
tools such as Spybot S&D (www.security.kolla.de) and/or Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com) - note that it is a good idea to do virus and
spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete temporary and Temporary Internet
Files; 4) stop unnecessary services/programs from running at startup
(see www.blackviper.com for a listing of services). Also, look in Event
Viewer for clues. When you are sure your system is clean, is the
problem solved? If not, then post back with what you have done and more
information about your system.
