Errors, and radical, spontaneous rebooting.

Mike

Hello,
I'm having alot of probelms, but biggest ones are
spontaneous rebooting, and various error messages. The
last one tocome up was this one:
A fatal exception 0E has occured in 0028:C0004e80 in VXD
VMM (01) + 00003E80

Then it continues on, eventually saying hit ctrl-alt-del
to reboot, or press any key to return. Sometimes when I do
that, the screen goes black, except for the pointer, and I
get nothing, but able to move the mouse, and pointer. Help.

These days most of us are recommending HijackThis: Post your files to the
forum mentioned on the above page.

If you cannot access the page to download HijackThis, use this link:

If you find you need CoolWebSearch Shredder, use this link:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/cwshredder.zip
(Get a fresh copy of CWS Shredder before each use. It's updated
frequently.)

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on do both once-a-day.

Thanks, you are saying that there could be an IE 6
security problem, and potential virus, rather than a
problem with windows '98SE? I'll run, again, a full system
scan with my anti-virus, and keep it updated, then.

If you're running Win98SE (you didn't tell us before), you aren't vulnerable
to MSBlast's RPC exploit. But the rest applies to you.

I'd suspect either a Trojan or hijackware. Always seek updated virus
definitions *before* running a full system scan.

Make certain you're fully up-to-date at Windows Update. The latest
Cumulative Patch for IE was released on 03 Oct-03.[/QUOTE]

Apologies about not saying I ran 98SE. I figured it wasn't
the MBlaster. So, I should just get the 03 Oct. '03 update
for OE? How about anything for '98SE? I'm also running
Norton Anti-Virus, and only NAV. No extra stuff like Clean
Sweep, or anyother system works from Norton. Don't trust
it.

Spontaneous rebooting can also be caused by hardware problems.
Heat in your computer box.
Check you the fan in the back of the computer box. Make sure that the small
fan in your heak sink is working.

I'm going to see about investing in a case fan that may
blow onto the hard drive. There has been alot of heat that
has built up there. My case is open, and I can feel that
the hard drive does get hot, at times of alot of use.
