ERROR

Eileen VanAllman

I have Vista 64 bit. If I leave Windows Mail running in the background I
get an "Error" on the bottom bar after about 20 minutes of non-use. I then
have to "refresh" to receive mail.
Is there a solution? Thanks, Eileen

Do you see any other error message? Do you see anything else that happens
when you get the "Error"? What happens when you double-click on the "Error"
(in the bottom bar) when it is there?

If I click on "Error" I get the message.... "The host 'mail.piasanet.com'
could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name
correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'mail.piasanet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D"

Thank you. I probably cannot help much more but this additional information
will help someone else to help you.

Errors such as this can often be diagnosed by searching the Microsoft
TechNet for the error code. The error code for this is 0x800CCC0D, so the
search would be:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com...ket error 11001, error number:0x800ccc0d&ac=2

In the results is KB article 320759 (""The host could not be found" error
message when you send or receive messages in Outlook 2000"); see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320759
That article is for Outlook 2000, so it might not be relevant at all to your
problem. It does however say that the problem can be caused by "Zone Labs
firewall software, such as ZoneAlarm". Do you use ZoneAlarm?

Yet, I am connected, I can surf the internet. The problem has to be with
Window Mail.

Thanks for posting the complete error message.
Is this a broadband connection (DSL or cable) or a dial-up connection.
If broadband, check these settings:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Connection.
What does it show for connection?
You must either leave that unselected (in which case WM will use whatever
connection IE uses), or else select the Local Area Network.

Also, under Tools, Options, Connection, the first box should be checked,
and the second box unchecked.
If all that checks out, but you still have the problem, the account may be corrupted.
Delete the account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.
