Help! Today, I started Windows Mail and there was ZERO messages.. I have
dozens of folders and hundreds of messages. I don't know what happened. I
did a search for .eml and thankfully, they are there. But how do I get them
back into my folders? I had to re-create my account and I received just
current emails. How do I get all my folders and emails back to where they
belong????
Please help !!
Thank you !
Eileen

'View|Current View', make sure you don't have any of the "Hide messages"
selections checked and that "Show All Messages" is checked.

How about the "Hide" selections (Read messages, Read or Ignored messages,
and Answered messages), are they all UNchecked? If any of these have
checkmarks, you will be hiding messages from view.

No, nothing there. I think I know what happened. I was cleaning up the
icons on my desktop to folders. There was a folder called New Folder and I
moved it to a Web Favorites folder on my desktop and that is where my
messages are hiding. What the heck happened? I don't even know where this
folder came from. So, how do I get the msgs back ? Will the copy/paste
method work ?
Thank you!

Open Windows Explorer to the directory of eml files. Then open WinMail and
create a new folder and go to that new folder so that it shows an empty
message list. Then select an eml file and drag it from the Explorer window
overtop the message list and drop it and it will get incorporated into that
folder. Once you get that working, you can select all the eml files and
drag and drop them all at once, as long as they are only eml files.

Also, go to Control Panel | Folder Options | View and uncheck the option to
hide extensions for known file types so that you can more readily
distinguish the eml files.

Well, I have my mail back. It took some time, but I am very happy. This
also gave me a chance to so some cleaning up. But, I would love to know how
this happened. Anyway, thanks to Steve and Hal. I really appreciate you
guys.
Take care,
Eileen

WLM is also buggy. Its not any better than Winmail. Just backup your
messages frequently.

No software is 100% bug free. In my opinion the bugs in Windows Mail
are more severe than the ones in WLM.

And in my opinion WLM is a POS.
