Someone else got my last message with their problem so I'm starting over.
I have Vista 64 bit. If I leave Windows Mail running in the background,
after about 20 minutes I get "ERROR" on the bottom bar. I either have to
"refresh" or close Window Mail and reopen for it to get me my new messages.
Does anyone know why this ERROR is happening? I have it checked for 'check
for messages every 10 minutes'.

I get this message when I click on the Error on the bottom bar:

The host 'mail.piasanet.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have
entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'mail.piasanet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for posting back with the error message.

It is difficult sometimes to know who posted what, because very often the
original poster will change their alias, or someone hijacks a thread,
(though in this thread, CAT used exactly the same Subject title), "Eileen
VanAllman" becomes CAT.

Since your problem is intermittent, ie: you can get mail with WM running in
the background for a while.

Your error message indicates a dropped connection

I have to assume that you have a third party application interfering with
your mail?

This is likely to be your AV Application?

Disable any mail scanning options within its settings.

Unless Sam has a better idea?

I have no answers, but some questions....
Are you using the computer during the 20 minutes?
Are you connected to the internet during that 20 minutes?
Does your computer go to sleep?
Is your network card configured to power off after a certain time period?

Yes, but not always
Are you connected to the internet during that 20 minutes? Yes

Does your computer go to sleep?
Not unless I tell it to, I think. The screen does go black and I hit a key
or mouse button to bring back the desktop.

Sounds like your DNS lookup is failing sporadically.
One fix is to substitute the IP address for the server name.
Change mail.piasanet.com to 216.40.42.5
