Error with windows update attempt

I'm trying to do a windows update and I can choose either Express or
Custom, but either way it searched for a few seconds then displays
this-
[Error number: 0x800A0007]

issues)

The links it gives offer no real help whatsoever and are useless, and
the Online assited Suppor eventually want me to simply fill out an
email form, I suppose they might get back to me. But I'm wondering if
any here right now can help me. I've turned off a pop up blocker, but
other than that I don't even know what to look for to make it work.

Alice,

Have a look through the full thread at this link
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=566659 and see if it's of any
help - there seems to be several solutions there that may or not work for
you.

Hi Alice,
1= Try to Repair your Windows Update Engine, to do that follow these steps to
reregister the DLLs by opening a Run Command and type these Commands
one-by-one and click [Enter] or [OK]:
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv
Note you can copy the above DLLs in a notepad and save them as reg.bat on
the desktop and then open a run command and type in:
C:\reg.bat click [OK]
Then Restart your machine and try the windows Update website.
Be sure your machine clean from Malwares and you have Anti-virus Application
up2date.

2= Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced Tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.

Then Scroll down to Security option:
[&] Security
[v] Use SSL 2.0
[v] Use SSL 3.0
[v] Use TLS .10 <Optional >

Open windows explorer and locate this path:
C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution = Delete all folders in the right pane/window
Also have a look into your HOSTS file and see if the site is blocked there:
C:\windows\System32\drivers\etc = Hosts open with notepad.
HTH.
Let us know.
